1. Mix Patterns
Mix florals, stripes, plaid, block prints. Layered patterns create visual interest and make a home feel like it evolved over time rather than being purchased as a matching set.

2. Display Meaningful Decor
Family photos, collected treasures, travel souvenirs, and sentimental pieces make a house feel like home. Thrifted frames are my favorite way to display family photos.

3. Use Multiple Light Sources
Lamps, sconces, picture lights, and pretty chandeliers create a cozy glow. Use recessed lighting sparingly and put every light source on a dimmer whenever possible.

4. Natural Textures
Woven materials, linen, wood, marble, stone, ceramics, and aged metals add depth because of their imperfections.

5. Wood Tones
Don’t be afraid to mix them. Homes feel more collected when wood finishes aren’t perfectly matched.

6. Mix Vintage and New
My rule of thumb: at least 2 vintage or thrifted pieces for every 1 new item. That’s what gives a home character and prevents it from feeling like a showroom.

7. Live Plants
At least one live plant in every room. Live greenery adds a natural element that makes a space feel calm and grounded. Sorry, but faux just isn’t quite the same.

8. Art on the Walls
Bare walls are boring. Originals, thrifted art, and one-of-a-kind pieces are what give a home soul. Avoid mass produced prints as they can make a space feel generic instead of cozy and collected.
