Cafe curtain rods are a charming addition to any window. They provide privacy while still letting in natural light. Not only is this a budget-friendly solution, but it also allows for complete customization to fit your window. Here’s a guide on how to create your own cafe curtains.

Steps to Create Your Custom Cafe Curtain Rods
Step 1: Measure & Cut the Rods
Measure the width of the window where you plan to hang the cafe curtains then subtract 1/2 inch to accommodate the brackets. Cut the metal tubing using a small pipe cutter. Gently clamp it down where you have marked. Then, rotate the tool, tighten it a bit, rotate, tighten it a bit, and so on until the rod is cut.

Next, put the rings on the curtain rod with curtain attached and mark the height to mount the brackets. I wanted my curtains to just barely touch the top of the windowsill.

Step 2: Install the Mounting Brackets
We installed the brackets 1 inch into the window jamb. Our backsplash is 1/2″ zellige tile and we wanted to avoid drilling into it.

Next, drill pilot holes in the marked locations. This will help prevent the wood from splitting and make it easier to screw in the brackets.
Then, attach the brackets. Secure the brackets using the gold wood screws that are included. Hand tighten with a screwdriver. Ensure they are tightly fastened to provide sturdy support for your curtain rods.
Step 3: Install the Curtain Rod
Slide the threaded collar pieces from each bracket onto either end of the curtain rod (rings and curtains attached). Then, lift the curtain rod and position it so that it aligns with the installed brackets. Once the rod is lined up, thread the collar piece into place on each bracket. Tighten the collar piece to securely attach the rod.

Step 4: Final Adjustments
Adjust the curtains as needed to achieve the desired look and ensure they hang evenly. I adjusted some of my pleat hooks here and then steamed the curtains to remove any wrinkles.

With these steps completed, your cafe curtain rods are now securely installed, adding a charming and functional touch to your windows. Enjoy the blend of privacy and natural light that these custom curtains provide! Wondering where something else is from? Get all the kitchen links HERE.
