I’m always thinking of new ways to upgrade our builder grade home. Thanks to Pease Doors we were able to easily upgrade our basic white pantry door to a solid wood French door. If you use code: ASHLEY10 you can receive 10% off of your order site wide (valid through April 2023).
They sell a variety of door sizes so you can replace your existing door without having to replace the entire door frame as well. In our case, we needed at 28″ x 80″ door. I love French doors so I selected their Poplar Interior Door Slab (15 Lite Glass) I decided I wanted to stain the door to add some warmth to our all white kitchen.
The door quickly shipped to our home and was delivered safely on a pallet.
I knew that I wanted to stain the door a color that would complement the open shelving in our kitchen. Through some trial and error I came to a mixture of 2 parts Golden Pecan and 1 part Early American by Varathane. Just a note: all woods will take stain differently and this is just how it looks on Poplar and it would most likely look different on pine, oak, etc.
This door does require that you bore out lock holes and mortise hinges on the new door. After completing this step we applied our stain mixture, allowed it to dry and then applied 2 coats of semi gloss water based polyurethane.
I bought new hinges and a new door knob on Amazon. I wanted something vintage inspired so I went with these brass hinges and this faux glass door knob. This door knob is a bit difficult for my 2 year old to turn so I did not need to add back the baby lock.
After installing the hardware, the plastic window film needed to be scored with a razor blade and then the project was completed.
