Our powder room was very “builder grade” and lacked the aesthetic appeal I desired for our home. I saw the opportunity to transform this small yet frequently used space into a something totally out of my comfort zone and I could not be happier with the result. I had a vision of a dark rich green with lots of antique inspired gold accents.
A powder room, pantry, laundry room, mudroom, etc can be a great place to experiment without overwhelming the rest of the house. Whether you’re looking to try a new paint color, wallpaper, or wall treatment, these spaces offer a great opportunity to get creative and have some fun.
I wanted to add some sort of trim work to elevate the space. Due to the shape and layout of our powder room, there are a lot of obstacles and weird angles so I didn’t want to attempt anything too difficult. Something simple, low budget, that would also make a great impact. Simply a piece of chair rail adds so much to the room and cost very little. We installed it with our nail gun 36″ from the floor.
Next, we switched out the mirror, light fixture, and faucet to antique bronze finishes. Tap HERE for sources.
This $25 toilet lever from Amazon is such an inexpensive detail that can immediately upgrade your toilet’s appearance.
Paint Color Details
I walked into the paint store convinced I was going to walk out with a gallon of Rosemary. Since the room gets 0 natural light I made a last minute decision and went with the slightly lighter shade of green Dried Thyme. While I wanted the room to feel dramatic I did not want it to be overwhelmingly dark.
Dried Thyme looks so much darker in our powder room than other more natural lit photos I found online. It’s so important to take your lighting into consideration before selecting a paint color.
I had the color mixed into Sherwin Williams Emerald Paint in Satin finish for both the walls, trim, and the door.
Adding storage to a small bathroom.
Since we don’t have any sort of storage in this bathroom, I wanted to find some sort of shelf or cabinet on Facebook marketplace just for a few small things that I like to keep downstairs. I found this bright yellow shelf that had a little drawer and a towel bar a for $20 and painted it with my trim paint. I spray painted the knob with this Gold Rustoleum spray paint.
I then added these gold hooks from Amazon so I could hang a few different items from the bar and I think it’s so cute now.
