Do you have stale bread? Do you like recipes that can be prepared the night before for a delicious, easy, and stress free breakfast? Then this Easy Make-Ahead French Toast Casserole recipe is for you.
This recipe is prepared entirely the night before and all you have to do in the morning is pop it in the oven for about 30 minutes. By allowing the stale bread to soak in the mixture overnight you would never know it was dried out. This recipe comes out so soft on the inside with slight crispy top.
Homemade sourdough bread is, of course, my favorite bread to use to make this recipe but any bread will do. Another note, the bread doesn’t actually have to be stale, I just think this recipe is an excellent way to utilize bread that is becoming a bit dried out.
Equipment you may need.
Ingredients
- 400-500g bread
- 8 eggs
- 1 1/2 (360g) cups milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
Some of my favorite high quality ingredients.
Instructions
- The night before: Dice the bread into approximately 1 inch pieces.
- Lightly butter or grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- Add the bread pieces to the dish forming a nice even layer.
- Add to a mixing bowl: the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Mix well.
- Slowly pour the mixture into the 9×13 baking dish over the bread.
- Stir well to thoroughly coat all the pieces completely.
- Optional: sprinkle the top with some more cinnamon.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- The next morning: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Uncover the baking dish and bake for 30 minutes.
