Something I have realized in the past year is to NOT buy the trendy new Target lamps! Don’t get me wrong, they are super cute and I am tempted every time there is a new release, but I get very bored of them once I see them in all of the homes of Instagram.
One weekend, these lamps popped up on my Facebook marketplace feed for only $20 each and my husband went and picked them up for me the next day. I saw a lot of potential with the shape of the empire shades and the texture of the bases. They reminded me of something you’d find on McGee & Co. Name brand lamps can be several hundred dollars and I am always looking to achieve a high end look on a budget.
Not all DIY’s need to be difficult. All I did was spray paint them flat black and replace the lamp harps with slightly shorter ones.
The price of the lamps was $40 + $10 for a 2 pack of lamp harps + $7 for spray paint that I did not even use the entire can of. I think they could pass for a lamp a designer would sell for $300 and they cost me less than $30 each. My favorite part about them is that I have not seen them in anyone else’s home! I really enjoy having unique items that are not easily duplicated.
Do you feel the same way? Does seeing items you have in other people’s homes make them feel less special to you?
